Despite the recent missile test launch in the Pacific, China remains a significant development partner for the region, with its presence continuing to contribute to the development of Pacific Island countries through bilateral and multilateral partnerships.
Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, Baron Waqa said the Pacific Islands Forum Ministers Meeting reaffirms the importance of Pacific countries having a strong voice in regional decision-making. particularly on matters concerning peace, security and the safety of the
region.
“China is recognized as a very very important development partner for the region, both at the bilateral and multilateral level” he said.
Waqa said regional coperation remains critical in ensuring that Pacific countries are able to collectively address emerging security challenges while protecting the interests of the Blue Pacific.
“Every voice matters. The softest voice, the most vulnerable voice and those who don’t even say anything” he said.
