Police have launched an investigation into the death of a 30-year-old man at the Valelevu Health Centre following a referral from medical authorities.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been tasked with leading the inquiry, which will examine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
A post-mortem examination has also been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
Preliminary information provided by health officials indicates that the man first visited the Valelevu Health Centre on June 3, where he was advised to remain under medical care for further tests.
However, he reportedly signed a discharge form and returned to his home in Kinoya.
The following night, June 4, he returned to the health facility with family members after his condition worsened. Despite efforts by medical staff to provide treatment, he later died.
Police said investigations remain at an early stage and the information gathered so far is subject to further verification.
As part of the inquiry, investigators are also examining allegations that members of a joint task force were involved in a raid at a location where the deceased had reportedly been present.
