The newly opened Cuvu Community Learning Centre is expected to bring long-term educational benefits to students and families across the Cuvu district and surrounding communities.

Officially opened earlier this week, the Centre was established through the support of Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji and the Bilo Bar Club, with the aim of providing students with a safe and supportive after-school learning environment.

The Centre will cater for students from Years 4 to 8, senior secondary students, and tertiary students from seven villages in Cuvu as well as Voua Village. Operating on weekdays, the facility will provide homework support, literacy and numeracy assistance, exam preparation, and additional academic guidance.

Community leaders believe the initiative will help address educational challenges faced by many young people in the area, particularly students who have limited access to learning resources and academic support at home. The Centre is also expected to play an important role in reducing school dropout rates and encouraging students to continue their education.

The opening also coincided with 45 years of community service by the Bilo Bar Club, which has continued to support projects focused on youth development and community wellbeing around Yanuca Island.

Organisers say the Learning Centre represents an investment in the future of the Nadroga community, creating opportunities for young people to improve their education and work towards brighter career pathways.
