Conjoined twins, Noura and Sara, have been successfully separated following a complex operation in Saudi Arabia, bringing tears of joy to their parents.

The emotional moment came after a challenging surgical procedure involving 34 medical professionals, with the girls’ mother overcome with happiness at the outcome.

The twins arrived in Saudi Arabia on July 21, 2026, where they underwent detailed medical assessments to determine the extent of their physical connection and the organs they shared.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, head of the medical and surgical team and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, said the girls were joined at the abdomen and pelvis. They shared the liver, intestines, colon, anus, urinary and reproductive systems, as well as the pelvic bone.

Due to the complexity of their condition, specialists developed a nine-stage surgical plan expected to take approximately 15 hours. The operation involved consultants, specialists, technical staff and nurses from several medical fields, including paediatric surgery, anaesthesia, plastic surgery, orthopaedics and urology.

Medical assessments before the operation placed the estimated success rate at around 70 percent because of the complexity of the twins’ shared organs.

The surgery was carried out under the directives of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.
