The existing Colonial War Memorial (CWM) Hospital campus will be the focus of Fiji’s next phase of hospital development, following a Cabinet decision to pursue a staged redevelopment approach.
The decision follows consideration of a Preliminary Master Plan for a proposed new National Tertiary Hospital at Valelevu.
The plan estimated the cost of building the new hospital at around AUD 3.5 billion, equivalent to FJD 5.35 billion. The first stage alone was projected to require about FJD 1.4 billion.
With the proposed Valelevu development requiring a significant upfront investment and financing commitments remaining limited, Cabinet has agreed to direct the next stages of planning towards upgrading and redeveloping the existing CWM Hospital site.
