Former Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s player and Rio Olympic gold medalist Masivesi Dakuwaqa has been suspended by his French club, Biarritz Olympique, following an alleged altercation with a teammate.
The incident, which occurred during a night out, involved Dakuwaqa allegedly attacking and biting his teammate, causing the player to require 20 stitches to his cheek. Witnesses reported that the scuffle stemmed from a money dispute, with the injured player intervening between Dakuwaqa and another teammate.
Dakuwaqa has admitted to biting his teammate but claims he cannot recall the details of the incident. Biarritz Olympique has launched an internal investigation, and the 30-year-old is set to appear in court in May 2025.
