Several abandoned vehicles have been removed from public streets in Lautoka following a joint enforcement operation by the Lautoka City Council, the Fiji Police Force and a contracted towing company.

The Council’s City Rangers Department carried out the operation after vehicle owners failed to remove the vehicles despite receiving repeated verbal warnings and assuring authorities they would comply.

When the vehicles remained on the roadside, the Council issued formal Encroachment Notices under the Street (Removal of Encroachment or Obstruction) Prescribed Order. As the notices were ignored, the vehicles were towed and taken to the Council Depot.

The Council says vehicle owners will be responsible for all removal costs, including any expenses related to repairing damage caused to public roads due to the obstructions, as provided under the law.

Lautoka City Council says it will continue enforcing measures to keep public streets safe, clean and accessible, while acknowledging the support of the Fiji Police Force and the contracted towing company during the operation.
