A strong El Niño event is now firmly established across the tropical Pacific, with forecasts indicating it could reach very strong intensity and continue through the rest of 2026 and into early 2027.
Fiji recorded drier-than-usual conditions in September, particularly across the Western, Central and Eastern divisions, as well as most parts of the Northern Division.
Rainfall recorded between July and September was also below average to well below average at monitoring stations across the country. Navua was the exception, recording average rainfall during the three-month period.
