The Ministry of Education has confirmed that most schools across Fiji will reopen on Wednesday, 17 June, following an assessment of the current weather situation and its impact on communities.

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro said the decision was made after consultations with the National Disaster Risk Management Office, the Fiji Meteorological Service, and other relevant agencies.

In the Central Division, schools will resume classes except those in Naitasiri, Namosi, and Rewa, where flooding and inaccessible roads continue to pose safety risks.

Schools in the Ra Education District will remain closed, while all other schools in the Western Division are expected to reopen.

In the Eastern Division, classes will resume in most areas; however, schools in the Lau and Kadavu education districts will stay closed due to ongoing strong winds, heavy rain, rough sea conditions, and transport difficulties affecting students who rely on marine travel.

Meanwhile, all schools in the Northern Division will return to normal operations.

The Ministry has urged parents and guardians to make safety a priority when deciding whether to send their children to school.

School leaders have also been advised to maintain close contact with divisional and district education offices while monitoring conditions in their respective areas.

Authorities say they will continue to assess the evolving weather situation and provide further updates if necessary.
