Energy Fiji Limited is advising customers whose electricity has been disconnected over unpaid bills to allow sufficient time for payments to be processed before their power supply can be restored.
The utility says while electricity is generally reconnected within 24 working hours after full payment has been verified, payments made through third-party channels can take between 24 and 72 hours to be received and reconciled.
EFL says this means customers using internet banking, M-PAiSA, Digicel Mobile Money, Post Fiji and MaxValu should expect delays before reconnection can begin.
The company is also reminding customers that payments made during weekends and public holidays will only be processed on the next working day.
As of 30 June 2026, EFL was providing electricity services to 229,351 customer accounts, including 170,383 post-paid customers and 58,968 pre-paid customers.
It says around 5,400 overdue accounts—about two percent of its post-paid customers—are disconnected each month because of unpaid electricity bills.
EFL says reconnection is also subject to payment verification, operational capacity, weather conditions and accessibility to customer premises.
The company is encouraging customers to pay their electricity bills before the due date and ensure their accounts and contact details are up to date to avoid unnecessary service interruptions.
Chief Executive Officer Fatiaki Gibson says every kilowatt-hour of electricity saved helps reduce fuel consumption, lower electricity costs and strengthen Fiji’s energy security, adding that conserving electricity is a shared national responsibility as Fiji continues to face global fuel price volatility.
