Emergency water distribution efforts are continuing across Fiji’s Northern Division as communities face ongoing dry conditions linked to El Niño.

As of October 16, the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), through the Office of the Divisional Commissioner Northern, is working alongside the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, and the Water Authority of Fiji to provide essential water supplies to affected communities.

A total of 205,000 litres of fresh water has been distributed to Vunikodi Village, Namukalau Village and Udu District School. Vunikodi received 90,000 litres, while Namukalau received 55,000 litres and Udu District School received 60,000 litres.

Water delivery operations have also expanded to Gevo and Kavewa, with supplies successfully reaching Kavewa Village.

The MLC Vatulawa has berthed at Malau Jetty to support the refilling of water tanks using land-based trucks, helping sustain the ongoing distribution efforts.

However, some communities are still awaiting assistance.

Water delivery to Druadrua Island remains pending, while the planned supply to Cikobia Island has been postponed following a Strong Wind Warning issued by the Fiji Meteorological Service.

Authorities continue to monitor conditions and coordinate deliveries to ensure affected communities receive essential supplies.

Residents in affected areas are urged to conserve water, use available supplies carefully and follow official advisories while dry conditions persist.

Further updates will be provided as distribution operations continue and weather conditions allow.
