Emergency water deliveries will continue in parts of Fiji’s maritime communities as authorities work to address shortages affecting residents in the Yasawa Group and Cikobia.
The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), under the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, confirmed that water supply operations launched last week would remain ongoing in the affected areas.
In the Western Division, the MLC Vunilagi will continue transporting water to communities across the Yasawa Group, while the MLC Vatulawa will maintain emergency water deliveries to Cikobia in the Northern Division.
The operations are being coordinated with the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, and the Water Authority of Fiji, alongside other relevant agencies and maritime stakeholders.
The NDRMO has acknowledged the efforts of both vessel crews and thanked communities in Yasawa and Cikobia for their cooperation in facilitating the delivery of essential water supplies.
Authorities say the continuation of water deliveries will depend on community needs and prevailing conditions. Residents have also been urged to conserve water and use available supplies carefully as monitoring of the situation continues.
