The Republic of Fiji Military Forces and Fiji Police Force have conducted a joint test of maritime operation as part of Exercise Bougainville 2026 in the Western Division.

The exercise transitioned into Phase 5, Deployable Condition 3 (DEPCON 3): Maritime Insurgency, in the early hours of Tuesday, August 25, at Vuda Marina and surrounding waters, including the area around Serenity Island.

The training scenario involved a group transporting illicit drugs and weapons to Serenity Island. In response, personnel from the RFMF Naval Division and Fiji Police Force conducted maritime operations and island-clearing activities to identify and contain the simulated threat.

The Naval Division and Fiji Police Force subsequently requested support from troops of the RFMF Rapid Response Infantry Combat Group, who were deployed to assist in neutralising the simulated threat and securing the area.

The exercise phase is designed to strengthen operational readiness, enhance inter-agency coordination and validate the ability of participating agencies to respond effectively to complex national security challenges.

Exercise Bougainville 2026 continues to provide a realistic and controlled environment for participating agencies to test command, coordination and operational capabilities in support of Fiji’s national security and resilience.
