The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) is urging members of the public to avoid stockpiling fuel in residential areas due to the safety risks associated with storing petroleum products.
The commission highlighted that fuel service stations are equipped with specialised underground storage tanks designed to safely contain petrol and diesel, both of which produce highly hazardous vapours.
FCCC is encouraging Fijians to prioritise the safety of their households and communities by refraining from keeping fuel supplies at home.
The commission says proper fuel storage requires specialised infrastructure and handling procedures that are not typically available in residential settings.
