Fiji FA eyes better facilities for next year’s schools football

The Fiji Football Association says better playing facilities will be a key focus ahead of next year’s Fiji Secondary Schools Football Competition following challenges faced during this year’s tournament in Labasa.

Fiji FA CEO Mohammed Yusuf confirms that the association will conduct a post-tournament review with the Fiji Secondary School Football Association, with limited grounds in Labasa forcing several matches to be played at school fields.

“We will need to sit down and speak to the Fiji Secondary School Football Association about the tournament’s venue and facilities being offered to the young kids. Maybe Labasa had very limited resources, in terms of good playing grounds and as a result a lot of matches were held on school grounds which may not be condusive.”

He says the aim is to secure a stadium with multiple grounds for next year’s competition, ensuring young players have better and more suitable conditions to showcase their talent.

We’ll be having a post mortem of the whole thing and then work with the Fiji Secondary School’s FA to ensure that next year’s tournament is held at a stadium with multiple grounds and everybody plays on good conditions.”
