The Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s have made a strong start to their campaign at the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Valladolid, Spain, winning their opening two pool matches against France and the United States to book a place in the Cup quarter-finals.

Fiji began their tournament with an impressive 26-12 win over France, producing a clinical attacking performance to take control of Pool C and set the tone for the rest of their campaign.

The momentum continued in their second match against the USA, where Fiji overcame a tough first-half challenge to secure a 19-7 victory and confirm their place in the Cup quarter-finals.

George Bose crossed for Fiji’s opening try after the side dominated a scrum deep inside American territory to take an early 7-0 lead.

The USA responded through Orrin Bizer to level the scores at 7-all heading into halftime, but Fiji found another gear in the second spell.

Filipe Sauturaga produced one of the moments of the match, sprinting the length of the field after an American turnover to restore Fiji’s advantage.

The men in white then tightened their defence and controlled possession before captain Terio Tamani sliced through the defence and delivered the final pass for Kavekini Tanivanuakula to score Fiji’s third try and seal the 19-7 result.

The two victories see Fiji advance to the Cup quarter-finals with confidence as they continue their quest for the World Championship title.

Their next pool match is against hosts Spain at 12.12am tomorrow (Fiji time), with the Cup quarter-finals scheduled for later in the morning.
