The Fiji Airways Fijian men’s 7s team is still searching for their first tournament titles of the new World Series.
They had to settle for a bronze medal in the second tournament in Cape Town.
According to Captain Josefa Talacolo, the team put up a tough fight in the 3rd and 4th place playoff against Ireland.
Although they lost to Australia in the semifinal with a score of 24-7, they managed to secure a win against Ireland in the bronze medal playoff.
However, Fiji failed to score in the first half while Gavin Mullin gave Ireland a 7-0 lead at half time.
But the team made a strong comeback in the second half, scoring twice through Filipo Bukayaro and Josefa Talacolo to secure the 14 – 7 victory and finish third in Cape Town.
Talacolo expressed that this was not the result they were hoping for in the tournament, but they are still happy with what they have achieved and there’s still lot of work to be done.
The Fiji 7s team will now return home and prepare for the next tournament in the eight-event World Sevens Series in Perth, Australia from January 26th-28th.
