The Fiji Navy has redirected one of its deployed vessels to carry out an urgent medical evacuation in Namuka I Lau, transporting a seven-year-old child and a young woman who both required immediate medical attention.
RFNS Timo was reassigned to the emergency earlier today following a request from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, despite having already spent three weeks on deployment for a national government tasking.
The operation highlights the Navy’s role in responding to urgent medical needs in Fiji’s outer islands, where access to healthcare can require assistance from maritime services.
The Fiji Navy has continued working alongside the Ministry of Health in recent weeks to help transport people from outer islands who need urgent medical care.
Navy personnel remain prepared to adjust their operational duties when emergencies arise.
