Fiji, New Zealand discuss stronger regional cooperation and mobility

Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sitiveni Rabuka met with New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister, Winston Peters, during a bilateral meeting in Nadi last night.

The two leaders discussed shared economic, security, and strategic priorities, reaffirming their countries’ commitment to deepening bilateral relations and enhancing regional collaboration in light of evolving global challenges.

Prime Minister Rabuka welcomed the opportunity to strengthen cooperation, particularly acknowledging New Zealand’s recent changes to visa settings which are expected to ease the movement of people between the two nations.

The meeting highlighted key areas of engagement including economic growth, trade and investment, tourism, defence and security cooperation, and labour mobility.

Both leaders reaffirmed the strength of the Fiji–New Zealand partnership and its continued importance in promoting prosperity and stability across the Pacific.
