In a move to boost Pacific representation on global peacekeeping missions, ten officers from the Fiji Police Force will head to Brisbane, Australia, this month for specialized UN deployment training.

The officers are set to participate in the Pre-SAAT Assessment for Mission Service (AMS) from May 12 to June 13 at the Pinkenba Training Centre, alongside 100 regional candidates.

The program is part of a broader initiative led by the Australian Federal Police through the Pacific Policing Initiative (PPI) under the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP).

The training aims to establish a unified Pacific peacekeeping component and expand the region’s footprint in international missions.

In addition to the candidates, three Fijian officers SP Ruci Nasemira, ASP Mohammed Yunus, and A/ASP Rakeshwar Singh have been selected as UN-certified trainers and will join 20 international counterparts in facilitating the program.

During a farewell ceremony, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mesake Waqa encouraged the team to represent Fiji with pride, calling the deployment a “significant collaborative step” for the Pacific.
