Fiji’s commitment to global peace and security was on full display at the 2025 United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting, held from May 13–14 in Berlin.
Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, led Fiji’s delegation alongside Brigadier General Manoa Gadai and Colonel Siliva Vananalagi of Fiji’s UN Mission in New York.
The meeting opened by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Germany’s Foreign Minister brought together senior defence officials from troop-contributing countries to discuss strengthening peacekeeping operations through accountability, inclusivity, and gender equity.
Fiji actively supported the focus on the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, with the German Foreign Minister presenting new peacekeeping equipment for Fijian female personnel as a show of support for gender-responsive operations.
Tikoduadua also held key bilateral meetings with senior defence and UN officials, including the UN Military Adviser, US Department of State representatives, and defence leaders from New Zealand, Japan, and Australia.
The visit concluded with strong endorsements of Fiji’s continued role in peacekeeping and its advocacy for safer, more inclusive missions globally.
