The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection has strengthened its partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) through a USD 3.5 million (FJ$7.67m) Digital Capacity Building Project to support women’s social and economic participation in Fiji.

The project will run from 2026 to 2029, focusing on women in rural, maritime and underserved communities in the Central and Western Divisions with expectation to reach around 130 women’s groups, helping women access digital technology, information, markets and financial opportunities.

Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, said the project supports Fiji’s priorities for women’s economic empowerment and the National Gender Policy.

The project was developed following consultations with women’s groups and other stakeholders.

The empowerment programme will focus on digital literacy, women’s entrepreneurship and capacity building.

Support will include equipment such as tablets and charging facilities, as well as training to help women develop their businesses and connect with markets.

The Ministry will coordinate the project, support its implementation and monitor progress to ensure activities respond to the needs of women and their communities.

Also present at the signing was the Korean Ambassador to Fiji, Kwong Young-Seup, the KOICA Country Director for Fiji and the Pacific, Hankyulsam Cho, and Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Justice and Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection, Selina Kuruleca.
