Fiji has reaffirmed its commitment to host the 76th Session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Regional Committee Meeting (RCM) in October 2025.

Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Penioni Ravunawa, alongside Acting Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Luisa Cikamatana, met with WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, Dr. Saia Ma’u Piukala, in Geneva today to formally confirm Fiji’s intent.

The bilateral meeting took place on the margins of the 78th Session of the World Health Assembly at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr. Piukala warmly welcomed the assurance from Fiji’s delegation and noted strong anticipation among member states.

“WPRO countries attending the WHA are already asking about the dress code for the RCM and when they can book accommodation in Nadi,” he said, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for the event.

In addition to health policy discussions, the October meeting is expected to be an opportunity for Fiji to showcase its rich cultural heritage and hospitality to visiting delegates.

The Regional Committee Meeting is WHO’s principal decision-making body for the Western Pacific Region, made up of 38 member states and areas. This will mark the first time that an independent Pacific Island country will host the event.
