The Fijian Drua has confirmed that World Rugby funding used to establish the franchise will officially conclude in June 2026, with the club already preparing for the transition.

In a statement provided by CEO Jeff Miller, the Drua says it has been working to ensure long-term sustainability as the funding comes to an end.

The club says its brand has grown significantly over the past five years and now plays a major role beyond rugby, contributing to Fiji’s economy through sports tourism. It also highlighted strong commercial partnerships and continued support from the Australian Government through the PacificAus Sports programme.

With the loss of one major revenue source, the Drua says it is actively developing alternative income streams, including paid streaming and expanding engagement with overseas markets and the Fijian diaspora.

The franchise confirmed it has also adjusted its expenses to remain financially viable, while continuing to invest in team performance and development pathways across both its men’s and women’s programmes.

Despite efforts to strengthen its financial position, the Drua acknowledged the men’s team’s recent Super Rugby Pacific performance fell short of expectations, while the women’s side continues to deliver consistent finals appearances.

The club maintains that it remains a key national asset, generating more than $108 million annually for Fiji, with sports tourism contributions expected to grow further. Plans are already in place for increased international engagement, including visits from overseas teams in 2027.

The Drua says ongoing collaboration with government and tourism stakeholders will be critical as it continues to build new revenue streams while maintaining competitiveness in Super Rugby Pacific.

The confirmation follows media queries seeking clarification on the future of World Rugby support and the long-term stability of the franchise.
