The Vodafone Fijians XV delivered a dominant attacking performance, running in eight tries to defeat a spirited Hong Kong China side on the second weekend of the WXV Global Series Challenger.

Fiji made an early statement with Adi Salote Nailolo opening the scoring in the eighth minute after sustained pressure inside Hong Kong China’s territory. Just three minutes later, Varanisese Qoro doubled the advantage, sprinting in from halfway to finish a slick attacking move featuring impressive support play and offloading skill.

Hong Kong China responded strongly through Tanya Dhar and Sabay Lynam, who crossed within a 10-minute spell to briefly give their side the lead in a contest between two teams that staged remarkable comebacks during the opening weekend.

The lead, however, was short-lived as Qoro crossed for her second try moments after the restart, exploiting a narrow gap in the defensive line as Fiji regained momentum and control.

The Fijians then shifted into top gear before halftime. Player of the Match Atelaite Buna Ralivanawa and Merewairita Neivosa combined for three tries in the closing minutes of the opening half, helping Fiji establish a commanding advantage. Ralivanawa produced a determined finish for the first of her two tries, while Neivosa capped off a flowing move that showcased Fiji’s speed and support play.

Despite trailing on the scoreboard, Hong Kong China continued to threaten and created several scoring opportunities before the break, only for handling errors in the final pass to deny them additional points.

Fiji maintained the pressure after halftime, with replacement Zipporah Sorokacika making an immediate impact by crashing over for the side’s seventh try shortly after entering the match.

Hong Kong China refused to back down and struck back before the hour mark through Lauren Kate Knowler, who powered her way over from an attacking lineout move after collecting a low pass from Grace Hood.

The Fijians added their eighth and final try with 13 minutes remaining when another replacement, Vasemaca Duva, burst through untouched to score after accelerating onto a perfectly timed pass.

Hong Kong China had the final word as Lucia Bolton crossed after the full-time siren for her side’s fourth try, securing a bonus point despite Fiji’s convincing victory.

The result highlighted Fiji’s attacking firepower and clinical finishing as they continued their strong campaign in the WXV Global Series Challenger.
