Lieutenant Viliame Rigamoto of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Engineer Regiment has graduated from the U.S. Army Military Engineer Academy at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, earning a Diploma in Military Engineering and qualification as a Company Commander.
In addition to his graduation, Lt. Rigamoto was awarded the Best International Student Award, recognising his outstanding dedication and performance throughout the course.
Reflecting on his experience, Lt. Rigamoto highlighted the importance of connecting theoretical knowledge with real-world application, especially in leadership roles where informed decision-making is critical.
“The highlight for me was serving as the Brigade Adjutant during a Brigade Joint Combined Arms Exercise, where I could directly apply the theories we learned in class,” he said. “This practical experience will be invaluable as I return to take on greater leadership responsibilities within the RFMF.”
Lt. Rigamoto expressed his gratitude to both the RFMF and the United States military for the opportunity to study abroad, describing it as a pivotal learning experience in his career.
He also acknowledged the value of the Engineer Captains Career Course in broadening his expertise, noting the exposure to different disciplines relevant to the work of the Engineers Regiment.
Lt. Rigamoto holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and Land Management with a minor in Politics from the University of the South Pacific, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Military Strategies and Management from Hindustan University in India.
Originally from Lopta, Oinafa, Rotuma, with maternal links to Noco, Rewa, Lt. Rigamoto dedicated his achievement to his late father, his family, and his Christian faith.
“This accomplishment is for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and in memory of my late father,” he said. “I am grateful to my family for their prayers and support.”
