A fishing family from Newtown Settlement in Lokia, Rewa, has received a new boat and outboard engine through the Government’s Seafarer Entrepreneurship Assistance (SEA) Programme, giving them the opportunity to grow their fishing business.

Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Hon. Mosese Bulitavu, presented the assistance to Mr. Aveneel Chand and his family, recognising their dedication to strengthening their livelihood.

For more than three years, Mr. Chand depended on a small wooden boat to provide for his family. The newly provided larger and safer vessel is expected to improve fishing operations, increase catches and boost the family’s income.

Hon. Bulitavu said the SEA Programme demonstrates the Government’s commitment to creating livelihood opportunities for rural and maritime communities by supporting fishing and other marine-based businesses.

Under the programme, beneficiaries contribute one-third of the total project cost, while the Government covers the remaining two-thirds.
