Five families in Vadra Village on Moala Island are set to become homeowners through the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management’s Rural Housing Assistance (RHA) Programme.
Officials from the Ministry’s Rural Housing Unit are currently in the village overseeing the construction of five two-bedroom houses under Scheme 3 of the programme.
The scheme supports timber resource owners, including participants in pine schemes, native timber resource owners and lease beneficiary holders.
Under the initiative, beneficiaries can use the value of their timber resources to meet their one-third contribution towards the cost of building their homes, reducing the financial burden of home ownership.
The housing project forms part of the Coalition Government’s efforts to improve living standards in rural and maritime communities, where access to housing assistance is often limited.
Upon completion, the five households will move into safe and secure homes, marking a significant milestone for the families and the wider village community.
