The FIJI Water Flying Fijians have unveiled a strong 23-man squad for their opening Nations Championship encounter against Wales at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, July 4, with acting head coach Senirusi Seruvakula combining experienced campaigners and emerging talent.

Loose forward Peceli Yato makes his return to the national setup from the bench, while young tighthead prop Tim Hoyt has been handed a starting role in a selection that reflects Fiji’s intent heading into the opening test.

Seruvakula said every player earned their place through consistent performances at club level. He explained that Hoyt’s opportunity came after impressive displays in France and the absence of Luke Tagi.

The backline features Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula at flyhalf alongside scrumhalf Frank Lomani, while Josua Tuisova and Semi Radradra reunite in midfield. Radradra is set to make his first Test appearance in more than 18 months. Jiuta Wainiqolo and Selestino Ravutaumada occupy the wings, with Salesi Rayasi named at fullback.

Captain Tevita Ikanivere leads the side from hooker, joined in the front row by Eroni Mawi and Hoyt. The locking combination consists of Isoa Nasilasila and Temo Mayanavanua, while Pita-Gus Sowakula, Kitione Salawa Jnr and Elia Canakaivata complete the loose forward trio.

The reserves provide valuable depth, with Yato, experienced prop Peni Ravai and utility back Vilimoni Botitu among the key options available.

Seruvakula acknowledged that selecting the squad was challenging due to the depth of talent available from players competing across both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. However, he believes the chosen group has the quality to make a positive start to the championship.

Fiji faces a demanding opening assignment on Welsh soil, but the Flying Fijians will be confident their blend of power, pace and experience can produce a strong performance in Cardiff.
