The Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) Board has confirmed that an independent safeguarding review is underway following public commentary and reports concerning internal organisational and personnel matters.

The Independent Safeguarding Commission was activated on 21 September 2026 to examine administrative and workplace protection concerns within the organisation.

The panel includes representatives linked to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Fiji National Sports Commission, Pherrus Financial Services Fiji and independent legal counsel.

The FNRL says the commission will conduct fact-finding and identify areas for improvement in governance, with recommendations aimed at strengthening a safe, transparent and compliant working environment for staff, attachment students and volunteers.

The Board says confidentiality measures are in place under Section 12.3 of the FNRL Code of Conduct, with a formal process allowing all affected parties an opportunity to respond as part of the review.

FNRL also says it will cooperate with any formal external processes involving civil authorities, while continuing its internal administrative review under its own governance procedures.

Independent professional support has also been made available to personnel, with the organisation saying their welfare remains a priority.

The Board is urging members, partners, stakeholders and the public to avoid spreading unverified information or confidential material while the review is ongoing. Further information will be released through official FNRL channels once key procedural stages are completed.
