Former Fiji Bati stars Jarryd Hayne, Wes Naiqama and Kevin Naiqama will join Head Coach Mick Potter’s coaching staff as assistant coaches ahead of this year’s Rugby League World Cup.
Potter says the trio’s wealth of international experience and understanding of what it takes to compete at the highest level will be invaluable in preparing the squad.
He believes their leadership, knowledge of the game and strong connection with the players will help create a winning culture as the Bati aim to challenge the world’s best on rugby league’s biggest stage.
“Wes has been in the NRL for quite some time. I’m very confident. Everyone knows Jarryd. He’s one of those players that has rugby league IQ beyond most people.
He’s going to be a valuable asset for us.
I think Kevin is still playing. Kevin is going to help with a bit of cultural things and also with running some opposition for us, which will be valuable for us.
That physicality that he’ll have will help us in training.
Just having Wes and Kevin there and Jared, there’s a good mix of players. I’m looking to get another person on board as well, if I can.”
