Four people, including two juveniles, have been arrested following a snap police checkpoint along the Hibiscus Highway in Naweni on Wednesday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe said the arrests were made over alleged unlawful possession of illicit drugs believed to be marijuana.

He said the Northern Division operations team continues to target both the cultivation and unlawful possession of illicit drugs, while snap checkpoints can also result in arrests for other alleged offences.

These include cases involving criminal intimidation and assault.

Police are also conducting visits to communities and schools as part of a broader approach to addressing the illicit drug trade and raising awareness.

Investigations into the alleged drug possession cases are continuing.
