Four police officers charged with allegedly assaulting a man during a drug raid at Wailea Settlement in Vatuwaqa, Suva, have had their case adjourned to next Monday.
The accused, Jekope Nakula, Maciu Tuira, Tokoni Nemia and Unaisi Naqiri — appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza in the Suva Magistrates Court this morning.
The matter is being presided over by Magistrate Charles Ratakele. However, as his court was not sitting today, Magistrate Hamza adjourned the case to Monday.
The four officers are each charged with one count of an act intended to cause grievous harm.
It is alleged that during a drug raid conducted between March 15 and 16, 2024, the officers unlawfully wounded Stephen Serukalou O’Connor by repeatedly assaulting him.
The accused have been remanded in custody and are expected to reappear in court on Monday.
