Defending champions Argentina were equally dominant, cruising to a 3-0 win over Algeria in Group J to begin their title defence on a high note.
Norway completed the day’s action with a commanding 4-1 victory over Iraq, with Erling Haaland scoring twice on his World Cup debut.
Meanwhile, Group J rivals Austria and Jordan are currently battling it out in the tournament’s only live fixture as the race for qualification continues to heat up.
With the tournament gathering momentum, football’s biggest nations are already laying down early markers in their quest for World Cup glory.
