The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has intercepted 8,340 sticks of undeclared cigarettes from a foreign fishing vessel that arrived in Fiji on Friday, 16 October 2026.
The cigarettes, valued at $65,230, were discovered by the FRCS Suva Maritime Compliance Team following targeted risk profiling and intelligence shared by partner agencies.
Customs officers uncovered the cigarettes concealed in hard-to-reach areas of the vessel in an apparent attempt to avoid detection.
The operation was supported by the Fiji Detector Dogs Unit, with cooperation from partner agencies helping officers identify the undeclared goods.
FRCS says the interception highlights the importance of intelligence sharing, risk assessment and thorough inspections in detecting illicit goods and protecting Fiji’s maritime borders.
The agency remains committed to preventing smuggling, safeguarding government revenue and strengthening border security.
