The Fiji Rugby Union and the Fiji Corrections Service have begun discussions on a potential partnership aimed at expanding rugby development opportunities while supporting rehabilitation and workforce growth initiatives.

Representatives from the Fiji Rugby Union met with senior officials at the Fiji Corrections Service National Headquarters on Gordon Street in Suva on 3 June, where both organisations explored areas for future collaboration.

Talks centred on strengthening rugby pathways for Corrections officers, enhancing coaching and high-performance programmes, and identifying promising rugby talent within the Service. Leadership development was also highlighted as a key area of mutual interest.

The discussions further examined how rugby could be used as a platform to support rehabilitation and reintegration efforts, creating positive outcomes for both correctional officers and inmates.

Both parties recognised the historic contribution of Fiji Corrections Service personnel to the country’s rugby success and expressed confidence that a formal partnership could help advance sporting excellence, professional development, rehabilitation initiatives and broader nation-building goals.

Further consultations are expected as the two organisations work towards developing a framework to guide the proposed collaboration.
