The Government has introduced a contingency plan to ensure school bus services and essential public transport continue operating across Taveuni without disruption.
Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, said the Land Transport Authority has put in place an operational strategy that allows licensed carriers and minibuses to service affected school routes under temporary operating approvals where needed.
The Government has also stepped up coordination with the Ministry of Education, Fiji Police Force, Provincial Administration, school management committees, licensed carriers and transport operators to support the rollout of the temporary transport arrangements.
Authorities will carry out daily monitoring, compliance checks and operational reporting during the activation period to ensure services remain safe, dependable and efficient.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education is arranging the distribution of transport vouchers to schools across Taveuni.
Divisional officials are also working with education authorities and community stakeholders to reduce disruptions for students and their families.
Hon. Ro Filipe Tuisawau has called on parents and guardians to remain calm, assuring them that Government agencies are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to respond as needed.
