Today, hundreds gathered in Suva to mark the 12th International Day of Yoga, celebrating a practice that continues to bring people together through health, wellness and mindfulness.

Maintaining good health and staying active at every stage of life was the focus of the celebrations held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, highlighted the role yoga can play in improving physical health, mental well-being and overall quality of life.

Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Suneet Mehta, said that yoga continues to inspire healthier and more balanced lifestyles across the world.

“The theme for this year is Yoga for Healthy Aging, which highlights the vital role yoga can play in promoting physical health, mental well-being and emotional resilience throughout all stages of life” Mehta highlighted.

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh emphasized that healthy ageing begins with the choices people make today.

The International Day of Yoga is observed annually on June 21, promoting health, harmony and well-being while encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles for the future.

“Healthy aging is about maintaining physical health, mental well-being, independence and quality life. Yoga supports these goals by improving flexibility, strength, balance, mobility and emotional wellness” Singh said.
