The Fiji Rugby Football Union (FRU) has announced Rugby World Cup-winning coach Jake White as the new Head Coach of the FIJI Water Flying Fijians, ushering in a bold new chapter for national rugby ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
White’s appointment is one of the most significant coaching appointments in Fiji Rugby history, bringing a wealth of international experience and a proven track record of success at the highest level of the game.
The South African tactician is best known for guiding the Springboks to Rugby World Cup glory in 2007 and securing the Tri Nations title in 2004. He also led South Africa’s Under-21 team to a world championship in 2002, cementing his reputation as one of rugby’s most accomplished coaches.
FRFU believes White’s arrival signals more than just a change in leadership. It reflects the union’s commitment to strengthening Fiji’s competitiveness on the world stage and building on the foundations that have made the Flying Fijians one of rugby’s most respected teams.
White takes charge of a nation where rugby is deeply embedded in everyday life, from village grounds and school competitions to sold-out international stadiums. The Flying Fijians have earned global admiration for their flair, physicality and fearless style of play, qualities that FRFU is determined to preserve.
At the same time, Fiji Rugby is looking to add greater consistency, discipline and tactical excellence as it pursues new heights in international rugby.
The union’s vision is to create a Flying Fijians side that remains proudly Fijian in identity while becoming even more formidable against the world’s leading nations.
With White now at the helm, Fiji Rugby hopes the blend of local passion and world-class coaching expertise will help unlock the team’s full potential as preparations begin for Rugby World Cup 2027.
