Fiji has received the first instalment of maritime security and safety equipment from the Government of Japan under its Official Security Assistance initiative.
The handover took place today, with Permanent Secretary for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Mr. Mason Smith, accepting the donation on behalf of the Fijian Government.
The initial phase includes a rescue boat, an underwater camera, and a training mannequin essential tools to enhance the Fiji Navy’s operational readiness.
This marks the beginning of a three-phase support package that underscores Japan’s commitment to regional security.
Director of Official Security Assistance, Mr. Inoue Sunichi, reiterated Japan’s dedication to fostering a free and open Indo-Pacific, while expressing enthusiasm for deeper cooperation with Fiji’s maritime forces.
Mr. Smith thanked Japan for its continued partnership and highlighted the value of such strategic support in strengthening Fiji’s maritime capabilities.
