Visitors, surfers, tourism operators and communities in the Mamanuca waters benefited from a coordinated two-week maritime safety operation carried out during the World Surf League event at Cloudbreak, Fiji.

The Mamanuca Marine Protection Rescue Initiative (MMPRI), working alongside the Fiji Police Force (FPF) and other government enforcement agencies, provided maritime support from the opening day of the event through to its conclusion.

The operation followed requests from the WSL and the local community, prompting joint enforcement teams to maintain a visible presence across the Mamanuca waters, with particular attention given to the Cloudbreak area.

The teams worked to maintain a safe and orderly maritime environment for surfers, visitors, tourism businesses, local communities and other users of the waters throughout the event.

For those relying on the Mamanuca marine area for tourism, recreation and business, the operation highlighted the role that coordinated enforcement and community partnerships can play in keeping the waters safe while supporting Fiji’s growing reputation as a destination for major sporting and tourism events.

The Fiji Police Force has acknowledged MMPRI’s contribution to improving maritime visibility, coordination and operational support across the Mamanuca region.

MMPRI and the FPF also recognised the assistance of other government and enforcement agencies, including the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) and the Republic of Fiji Navy, whose involvement strengthened the joint operation.

The completion of the two-week deployment demonstrates how government agencies, law enforcement bodies and community-based organisations can work together toward common maritime safety and security goals.

MMPRI says it will continue working with the Fiji Police Force and relevant government stakeholders to support marine protection, maritime safety, law enforcement visibility and safe tourism throughout the Mamanuca waters.

The organisation is also continuing to work with businesses and donors to sustain its maritime protection, rescue and enforcement activities, with plans to further strengthen partnerships supporting a safe and sustainable marine tourism environment in Fiji.
