Fiji’s long-distance runner Yeshnil Karan has made headlines after breaking a national athletics record that stood unchallenged for over half a century.
Competing at the UniSport Australia Nationals Athletics Championship, Karan stormed to victory in the 10,000m race with a time of 30 minutes and 19.92 seconds shattering a 54-year-old national record in the process.
His historic performance has earned him a prestigious Sports Scholarship Grant from the Fiji National Sports Commission, allowing him to continue his training and academic pursuits in Australia.
The Commission praised Karan’s dedication and discipline, saying his achievement marks a new chapter for Fiji Athletics and serves as inspiration for aspiring athletes across the country.
