People in Labasa and surrounding communities have an opportunity to have their say on Fiji’s proposed Maritime Powers Bill, with public consultations continuing today.

The consultations, led by the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs, are aimed at gathering public input on legislation intended to strengthen Fiji’s maritime security and legal framework.

The first consultation was held last Friday at the Maritime Essential Services Centre (MESC), where representatives from Government agencies shared their views and took part in discussions on the proposed Bill.

Today’s consultation is open to members of the public, civil society organisations and other interested stakeholders in Labasa and nearby areas.

The Ministry is encouraging members of the community to participate and contribute their views as work continues on developing the legislation.
