Residents and ratepayers in Lautoka will see an adjustment to user-pay refuse collection fees following a sharp increase in fuel prices.

The Lautoka City Council announced that the revised charges took effect on June 15, 2026, citing higher operational expenses linked to the recent fuel surcharge.

According to the Council, fuel prices have risen significantly, increasing from $2.14 per litre in March 2026 to $4.58 per litre in June 2026; an increase of 114 percent.

The rise has affected the cost of operating waste collection trucks, transporting refuse to disposal sites and maintaining the collection fleet.

The Council noted that the refuse collection service is outsourced, and the increase in fuel costs has substantially raised contractual expenses, prompting a review of collection fees to maintain reliable waste management services.

Lautoka City Council thanked residents for their understanding and support, adding that the fee increase is temporary and is expected to be reviewed once fuel prices decline.
