Lautoka City Council is distributing face masks to residents living near the Vunato Landfill to help reduce their exposure to smoke and airborne particles.
The initiative covers communities surrounding the landfill, including California, Vunato, Veidogo and Reliance Road.
The Council says the distribution is part of its efforts to protect public health and support residents who may be affected by smoke from the landfill.
Residents are being encouraged to wear face masks when outdoors, limit unnecessary exposure to smoke and follow recommended public health precautions.
