One of Fiji rugby’s most celebrated players, Leone Nakarawa, is set to return home after signing with the Fijian Drua ahead of the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season.

The former Olympic gold medalist and Flying Fijians star brings a wealth of experience to the Drua, having played at the highest levels of international and professional rugby for more than a decade.

Known globally for his trademark offloads and athleticism, Nakarawa has made 132 professional appearances for top clubs including Glasgow Warriors, Racing 92, Toulon and Castres. He has also represented Fiji 68 times and featured in three Rugby World Cups, earning selection in the official Team of the Tournament at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The Kadavu native was also part of Fiji’s historic Rugby Sevens team that claimed the nation’s first-ever Olympic gold medal at the 2016 Rio Games, cementing his status as one of Fiji’s greatest rugby players.

Speaking on his move, Nakarawa said he is looking forward to playing professional rugby while remaining based in Fiji.

“Looking forward to be playing for the Drua and playing professional and staying Fiji.”

Before establishing himself on the international stage, Nakarawa developed through Fiji’s domestic rugby system, representing Tailevu and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces before progressing to the Fiji Warriors and Flying Fijians.

Baden Stephenson, General Manager Rugby for the Drua, welcomed the signing, describing Nakarawa as a proven leader and a player capable of making a major impact both on and off the field.

“Leone is a quality person, quality leader and big game player. We are excited to bring someone of his vast experience into the forward pack. It will be very special seeing Leone represent his family, village and country in the Super Rugby competition.”
