Thousands of Year 5 and Year 7 students across Fiji will begin sitting the 2026 Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LANA) from tomorrow as the Ministry of Education rolls out its nationwide programme to measure students’ core literacy and numeracy skills.

The assessment begins with the Literacy paper on Tuesday, 21 July, followed by the Numeracy paper on Wednesday, 22 July.

Students who are unable to sit the scheduled papers will have the opportunity to attend catch-up sessions on 23 and 24 July.

This year, 17,945 Year 5 students will sit the assessment at 717 centres, while 19,336 Year 7 students will take part across 720 centres nationwide.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has encouraged students to remain confident and do their best, describing the assessment as an important milestone that reflects their hard work while helping to further develop their literacy and numeracy abilities.

He also urged parents and guardians to continue supporting their children throughout the assessment period and reminded school heads to conduct the exercise in line with the approved guidelines.

The assessment results will be used to identify students’ learning needs and help shape future intervention programmes aimed at improving literacy and numeracy outcomes in Fiji’s primary schools.
