A man charged with the alleged attempted murder of a police officer is on the run, the Suva High Court has been told.

The police officer is Minister for Defence Pio Tikoduadua’s daughter, who has publicly provided updates on his daughter’s road to recovery.

The case against Saimoni Rokotunidau was called before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere this morning.

State Counsel Hezekiah Naufaga informed the court that Rokotunidau had allegedly sold his property and could not be located.

Rokotunidau had been released on bail, and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear in court during the previous court sitting.

The State asked the court to summon the accused’s sureties to determine whether they knew his whereabouts.

Rokotunidau was the driver of the vehicle that drove directly into a roadblock manned by a police officer in Laqere in May this year.

Justice Tuiqereqere ordered that the two sureties appear in court on the 24th of this month.
