A man in his 60s has been remanded in custody following his appearance in the Taveuni Magistrates Court on allegations involving a 14-year-old girl.
The accused faces one count of indecently annoying a person, two counts of sexual assault and one count of rape.
It is alleged that the offences occurred between May and June this year at a residence in Taveuni. The court heard that the accused allegedly threatened the victim with harm if she disclosed the incidents.
The matter came to the attention of authorities after the girl reportedly sought assistance from a relative living in a nearby settlement. The incident was subsequently reported to Police, leading to an investigation and the laying of charges.
The accused was remanded by the court, and the matter has been transferred to the Labasa High Court. The case is scheduled to be recalled on July 2, 2026.
