Fiji’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade has a new Permanent Secretary, with Mr Solo Mara taking up the role following the completion of the Public Service recruitment process.

Mr Mara succeeds Ms Raijeli Taga, whose contract as Permanent Secretary has ended.

A three-week handover period is expected to support a smooth transition and maintain continuity in the Ministry’s operations.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, welcomed Mr Mara’s appointment, saying the change comes as Fiji continues to expand its diplomatic engagement, strengthen external trade relations and build international partnerships.

Minister Ditoka also thanked Ms Taga for her service and leadership during her time in the position, particularly as Fiji navigated a busy period of international engagement.

The Minister said the leadership change is not expected to affect the Ministry’s ongoing programme of work.

Fiji will continue pursuing its diplomatic and trade priorities, with emphasis on coordination between the Ministry’s headquarters and its overseas missions.

Mr Mara’s appointment comes at a time when the Ministry is focused on strengthening Fiji’s foreign service, maintaining effective international relationships and advancing the country’s national interests.

The Ministry will now look to ensure the transition is orderly while continuing its existing diplomatic and trade commitments.
